Listed below are some helpful hints to make
your decal installation go more smoothly.
KEY TIPS:
- On hot or breezy days, be very careful when you
peel the graphics off the paper. The decals are
very sticky
and will want to fold over on itself (especially with larger
graphics)
- don't let it crease.
Spray adhesive section of graphics with a light mist as you peel off
transfer tape.
Do not try to install on a very windy or very hot day.
- Do not attempt installation in direct
sunlight on a hot day (over 90 degrees).
- If you need to remove old painted-on
boat letters,
use Easy-Off oven cleaner. Please test in an inconspicuous
area before using as it may discolor or damage fiberglass or
painted surfaces.
Please wear gloves and eye protection when
using any solvents. If the old decal has been
on for more than a few years, most likely the area will need
to be buffed or polished with a
fine rubbing compound (especially on fiberglass boats).
- Do Not use high heat such as
a heat gun or blow dryer to install as it will weaken the
material
and make it more likely to stretch or bubble up.
- If you use adhesive
remover or acetone to remove old graphics be sure to clean &
dry area
with soapy water and then dry before attempting to install
the new graphics as the residue
from the solvent will affect the adhesive on the new
graphics.
